Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Soldiers Party

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a diverse cast of heroes, and a exciting storyline including divine entities, demons, and malevolent powers growing in power within the city.

Note: Revealing details for the third episode of the new season lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled

The latest chapter ended with a major cliffhanger and revealed the first table of adventurers who will branch out from the primary party to undertake their independent quest, apart from the remaining groups.

This warrior group consists of Teor (portrayed by Travis), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

Considering a large ensemble, it was obvious from the beginning that keeping everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, intertwining the personal journeys before dividing into three separate parties: Warriors, Planners, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who are drawn to a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

At first glance, characters like the squeamish cleric the cleric might seem out of place, but the events of the third episode demonstrate why these five characters are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the group has a clear idea where to head next after a intense first encounter with the enemy group.

An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose death initiated the story’s plot—exploited the foes for his own means, invading the hidden lair, assaulting Thimble, and swiping all the enchanted items to auction.

Casimir then settled his liabilities and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each member has a individual motive to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as the companion and best friend, wants retribution.
  • Kattigan knows Timmony and advises that it is a nasty location.
  • The strong character and The cleric, having resisted his relatives’ demands to execute Teor and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
  • But, their position as key figures in House Halovar could assist the team enter areas they usually can’t.
  • Furthermore, Teor vowed a life debt to The cleric for his salvation and will now follow him anywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

In addition, all of them are wanted by the rulers that govern Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making remaining behind too risky:

  • The agile adventurer and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and The cleric turned against House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by the clan.

This means them little choice but to head to the remote area in quest for the traitor.

Upcoming Developments

From episode three’s follow-up content, we discover that the combat party will be absent the following episode, leaving the rest of the cast members to form the Explorers and Strategists groups.

Audiences can anticipate finding out which characters will be assigned to which table in the season’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on October 24.
